An important update on airfare for anyone planning a study-abroad programme in the Philippines.
It has been announced that the fuel surcharge included in airfares to the Philippines will increase significantly from May 2026. As a result, the total cost of flights is expected to rise compared to current prices.
Changes to the Fuel Surcharge
The surcharge, previously ¥22,600, will be revised to ¥41,000 — an increase of ¥18,400.
As a result, the overall cost of airfare is likely to rise by approximately ¥20,000 in many cases.
Important Note on Ticket Pricing
One key point to be aware of is when the ticket price is determined.
Airfare is based on the date of issuance (i.e. the date payment is completed), not the date of booking.
This means that even if you have already made a reservation, if payment falls after May, the higher post-revision price will apply.
Estimated Price Ranges
Based on the revised surcharge, the following price ranges are anticipated:
- Adults: approximately ¥109,410 (previously approximately ¥91,010)
- Children: approximately ¥94,890 (previously approximately ¥76,490)
These are indicative figures, but the timing of issuance can make a significant difference.
What You Can Do Now
If your travel date is already confirmed, we strongly recommend completing issuance (payment) as soon as possible.
For those considering a summer or winter study programme, locking in your schedule early may help avoid unnecessary additional costs.
Summary
The impact of this fuel surcharge revision is considerable — depending on timing, the difference could be close to ¥20,000.
We particularly encourage those considering junior camps or parent-and-child study abroad programmes to prepare early.
